A Fun day in Bodega Bay

There was a Clam Chowder festival coming up in Bodega Bay and I love Clam Chowder!!  With Bodega Bay being about a 2 hour drive each way it was a doable day trip for us.  In doing some research I found that the area had plenty of geocaches for us to go after.  I used the Favorite ratings on geocaching.com's cache listings to find some interesting big containers for us to find.  I love this new feature for caching in area's we may never go back to, because I made sure a couple of the top rated 'favorites' would be caches we'd go after.
We started our day off by picking up a map of the 10 restaurants that had Clam Chowder for the festival.  The Bodega Bay Visitors center was selling these maps for $5 and on the back they had a scorecard for us to rate the 10 chowders.  It took us more than a couple hours to get from place to place and try all 10.  It was a lot of fun and we all had our favorites in the end.  If you like Clam Chowder it is a really fun day, and I recommend it.  With the Chowder in our bellies and more of the day gone than we'd of liked we headed to grab some caches!  (Finally!!)
I had read about a BIG cache that looked like it was about a 5 gallon bucket, and was hoping we'd have time to get that one before the darkness hit.  We first stopped to grab a couple easier ones and the second cache found was called Porto Bodega ( GCX56D ).  It was a smaller container and a pretty easy find, but it was close to an interesting tree that the girls loved.  They quickly turned into monkeys!  I love the picture of them in the tree!

We made the short drive to the end of the Bodega point and parked. There were 6 caches all within about an hour and a half or so round trip hike, and I knew that the one BIG cache I'd read about was one of them!  All of us were a bit sluggish after all the Chowder and the hike started out with a slight uphill walk with some nice views.  We were getting closer to the first cache and I realized it WAS the one I wanted the girls to get to find.  :)  Rabbit Eye View ( GC9C ) was the cache name and it had to be one of the coolest cammo's ever, and was in fact a GIANT bucket of SWAG!!  OH YEAH!

We went on to find a few more on the hike and made our way back to the car.  All the finds there were nice bigger containers and the girls really enjoyed them.  We also ran into a very nice couple on our way out of town that was geocaching!  (Wyldreams was there geocaching username)  We shared a DNF search with them and swapped stories for a while.  It is always nice to run into other people that love the hobby like we do!  It was a fun day in Bodega Bay....
